The American Kennel Club has released its 2009 statistics, including the most popular purebred dogs. The AKC.org website lists the 164 most popular dog breeds in the US. It is interesting! Check it out at www.akc.org.

The top three most popular breeds are labrador, german shepherd and yorkshire terrier. The 2009 registration stats are extensive, even including most popular dogs by city.

Others in the top ten are: golden retriever, beagle, boxer, bulldog, dachsund, poodle and shih tzu.
